HOW TO GET TO LOPBURI SUNFLOWER FIELDS BY YOURSELF

Lopburi is the capital city of Lopburi Province and it’s about 150 kilometers north-east of Bangkok. Many of us might have travelled to this city to see its breathtaking sunflower fields since it’s one of the famous attractions here. The best time to visit this place will be in between November until January where at that time the sunflowers will blossom maturely.
If you still haven’t visited this place yet and you’re planning to do it on your own, here’s a few tips from for you on how to get there;

1. If you’re coming from Bangkok and you plan to take a train to Lopburi, first thing first you need to go to Hua Lamphong Station which is the main train station (central). You have many options on how to get to Hua Lamphong Station and one of them you could just take MRT to there. Take Exit 2 when you disembark at MRT Hua Lamphong.

2. After the exit to Hua Lamphong train station, you are suggested to take train no. 111 which leaves at 07:00. This train is available in third class only. The ticket price will cost 50 THB and it has no assigned seats (free seating). Another thing is you can’t book the ticket in advance so you need to buy the ticket on the day you are going there. The journey will take about 3 hours.

3. As soon as you arrive at Lopburi train station, there’s several steps to get to the sunflower fields;

  • If you’re travelling in a group of 3 – 4 people, it might be better for you to just rent a car when you get there. Remember to bargain for a good price and the best should be between 400 THB – 600 THB.
  • If you’re travelling alone or with your partner and you might want to be a little bit adventurous, just rent a scooter and you can go ride it around on your own. Let say you are having a really hard time to find a place to rent a scooter, you could just walk straight to Noom Guesthouse which is just 3-minute away from the train station. Besides, they can rent you a scooter for 300 THB and then you’re all set to go! (Don’t worry, if you’re just doing sunflower fields, you won’t have to spend more than 50 THB for gas).

4. Lopburi sunflower fields are located 20 kilometers from the old town. You would just have to follow the maps and directions given by the staff at Noom Guesthouse and it’s not that hard. From Lopburi old town, you will pass by three roundabouts and take 12 o’clock each. Then after the third roundabout, go straight and you will notice Shell gas station on your left. Turn left after the gas station and continue going straight then you will see a signage with “SUNFLOWER” on it and there will be a coffee shop on the left. One more left turn at the coffee shop then go a bit further and VOILA, YOU GET YOUR SUNFLOWER FIELDS! (Did I mention it’s free?)

5. After you’re done with striking poses for photos and everything, just take the same route back to the old town. You can take train no. 112 back to Bangkok which leaves at 14:39.

While waiting for the train or you have plenty of spare time, you could do a tour around the town. There are interesting temples and other attractions that you can visit as well. Share the good news and happy travelling!
